WHO IS BILLY BONES? highlights the four-decade-long music career of legendary punk rock vocalist Steven “Billy Bones” Fortuna. Feature Film From Director Kathy Kolla Follows Early L.A. Music Icon Billy Bones

LOS ANGELES (July 7, 2015) – Nearly 40 years after punk rock made its explosive appearance on the Hollywood music scene, a new documentary focusing on enigmatic vocalist Billy Bones is set to premiere at the Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles. The feature film “Who Is Billy Bones?” will screen on Closing Night of the festival, July 26, at the historic Regent Theater.

“Los Angeles has always been on the cutting edge of music and entertainment,” said Kathy Kolla, the film’s director. “So it’s only fitting for the world premiere of ‘Who Is Billy Bones?’ to be right here in downtown Los Angeles, particularly during this exciting time of urban renewal.”

As lead singer of the seminal L.A. punk rock band The Skulls, Steven “Billy Bones” Fortuna was an early pioneer of the genre, creating a lasting influence for uncounted musical successors. The 77-minute documentary focuses on Fortuna’s unwavering perseverance amid adversity throughout the past four decades, and includes interviews with rock musicians Mike Dirnt (Green Day), Christa Collins (X Factor), Chas T. Gray (Wall of Voodoo) and Kevin Preston (Prima Donna) among others.

The picture includes never-before-seen footage of L.A.’s first punk music venue, The Masque, shot exclusively for the project, along with archive interview footage of The Masque’s original proprietor, Brendan Mullen.

In addition to the world premiere screening, a Q&A session with filmmaker Kolla and a live music performance by Billy Bones will highlight the night’s program.

This is the first feature-length documentary film from director Kathy Kolla and Cola Kat Productions.

LOS ANGELES (November 14, 2014) – On the winding road to screen success, filmmaker Kathy Kolla’s first production, the comedic short “Another Day, Another Dime,” will air on television network ShortsHD beginning November 16.

“When production on ‘Another Day, Another Dime’ began in late 2008, people said there were no proper outlets for short films, other than screening at festivals,” said Kolla, who has won numerous honors for her filmmaking, including Best First Film Under 75 Minutes for “Another Day, Another Dime” at the 2009 International Film Festival South Africa. “Now, with the ShortsHD network in tens of millions of homes worldwide, there’s a real platform for the medium of the short film to shine. It’s important to be persistent — especially as a woman working in Hollywood — and I’m thrilled to now be able to share ‘Another Day, Another Dime’ with new audiences.”

The comedic film stars Kolla as a distraught housewife who turns to the ill-advice of a motivational speaker and literally acts out his metaphorical catch-phrases, causing catastrophic consequences. The film also stars Fred Warner and Chris Gann.

Kolla is currently finishing up her debut feature film, a documentary about 1970s punk rock icon Billy Bones, with plans to hit the festival circuit in early 2015.
